Did you know? Kaomoji (顔文字) originated in Japanese BBS culture in the 1980s 🇯🇵

Unlike Western emoticons :-) which read sideways, kaomoji read straight-on:

Kaomoji: (^_^)/ (o.o)/ (^_^)b

The word 顔文字 means "face characters" — and there are thousands of them!
